This Rioja has a cherry red color, with an aromatic component in which forest fruits predominate; spicy and vanilla aromas, from its passage through wood ( 20 months on oak ). In the mouth it is fresh and round, recalling flavors of black fruits and bush spices.
The history of the Hacienda is directly linked to that of the Cistercian monastery of Santa María La Real de Herrera. Its origin dates back to 1077 AD. Its set of buildings, sheltered by the Obarenes mountains, once functioned as a monastery, barracks, school, hospital for pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago and hermitage, which today remains open sheltering our patron saint, the Virgin of La Pera.
It has a unique vineyard in one of the highest areas of Rioja, which gives the vineyards a privileged location that is later reflected in our wines. The varieties Tempranillo, Viura, Garnacha and Mazuelo, among others, are grown.
The vineyards, located at an average altitude of 650 meters and protected by the Obarenes mountains, enjoy a privileged microclimate, ideal for growing grapes, with cold, dry winters and warm summers.
Shallow soils of calcareous clay origin mixed with pebbles give richness and aeration to the soil. All this, together with the orientation and different altitudes of the vineyards, some of which are more than 50 years old, favor the production of grapes with exceptional natural conditions, ideal for producing great wines for aging and with the character of our terroir.
